Self-assessment website
MyEdMaster has conducted numerous studies with students ranging in age from second graders to college, in subject areas of math, science, history, reading and foreign language, and in the US, Scotland, China and India, that show that students who use our Cognitive Structure Analysis (CSA) self-assessment method improve their academic performance, on average, by 1.5 to 2.5 letter grades. CSA is an assessment method that focuses on what concepts people have rather than if they can give the right answer to test questions. Our research shows that students can be taught to self-asses their own knowledge in just 10 minutes by showing them a sample template of how CSA works and asking them to perform CSA on themselves. Once the students identify their own knowledge gaps, they are successfully able to relearn the material and greatly improve their performance. This project will build a website that allows students, regardless of grade or subject area, to access self-assessment templates, assess their own knowledge and see where they are deficient. The site can be used individually by students or teachers will be allowed to register their classes, so that teachers can receive reports of student learning needs to guide their day-to-day instruction.
