research human resources concepts visual impairment education style guides branding usabilityOur Employee Handbook serves as a one stop shop for Riipen team members to navigate their employment and journey at Riipen. It was published in 2021, and updated regularly by our People and Culture.
As we approach the 5 year mark, we want to undertake a more comprehensive review and update. The branding and style are out of date and need to be refreshed based on our new brand and style guide, but more importantly we want to assess usability, clarity, and compliance with HR best practice. We know the Handbook is not as engaging and user friendly as it could be, and we want this project to get us there.
This project will give learners the opportunity to learn about the full employee lifecycle and all the people and culture processes that support that lifecycle. Learners will get a true HR generalist's view - they will be updating guides to everything from benefits, time-off, expenses, remote work policies, learning and development, and performance management. Creating and updating employee resources to align to both company and industry practices is something most HR/P&C professionals have to do on a regular basis - this projects is one that we hope you can showcase to potential employers as evidence of your hands on experience as a P&C generalist!
Learners will be given full edit access to our Employee Handbook (hosted on a Google Site), and asked to complete a full review and update, with a focus on:
- Bringing it up to speed with current best practice: What do the best employee handbooks offer that ours doesn't? Are there topics or content missing?
- Making it easier to navigate: Consider flow, order of content, individual page organization - if you were a new employee trying to navigate your new job/workplace, would you find this Handbook a useful tool? Is it easy to find information? Is the information clear?
- Making it as engaging as possible: Is there a good balance of text and visuals?
- Updating branding and style according to our current guidelines
- Improving digital accessibility: Improve the Handbook's accessibility for visually impaired users
Additionally, learners will present their findings and recommendations in a concise presentation format, highlighting the Handbooks's alignment with Riipen's company practice and industry best practice.
